chanel spring 2011 couture

chanel always kills me in one way or another. i'm in love with all of it. these are the type of dresses that you wear in dreams/dreamy situations. i really hate the black pointy toe shoes/slippers though. what the fuck. regardless, i can stare at this collection for hours. it's nice to look at something so untouched and pristine. i understand that these are clothes so of course they have been touched but chanel has this way of designing pieces that look like they have literally fallen off a cloud onto earth.

these designs are a far cry from what i wear on a daily basis obviously. the life of a fashion student (or any type of student) is not very glamourous as you can imagine. it's all about comfort. and the winter is the best for comfort. this weekend was very long and awful due to a tragedy in my family, so i spent time in new jersey/new york to be with everyone. that's why i've been quite absent from this blog for the past week. but i'm back.

this morning i woke up and it was basically dark outside. it's been a gloomy, rainy and slow winter so far but there has been bits of happiness shining through anyway.

my tiny bedroom project:

first there was this
then there was this..
then....
complete! i need to add more pictures/rearrange them as I go. These are all of my favorites, including a christmas present Vogue cover re-creation from etsy and a housewarming painting done by my niece Ace (the colorful cat with flowers growing out of it's head!)

friday night

does anyone remember this song & how good it was/is? I haven't listened to it in so long.

Tonight i'm on a mission to stay in (mission already accomplished), hang pictures on my newly painted wall in my room, download new music, watch Party Girl on netflix, light my favorite candles, eat rice & drink green tea (nursing a sore throat and ear infection. grOsS.) and have a facebook chat date. the end. oh yeah and i should probably do some research for all of my projects due this upcoming week.

i'm going to stay in more on weekend nights because not only am I trying to save money, but I truly like just being in my cozy apartment. Last night I had dinner with some girl friends at the delicious Blowin' Smoke bbq (great food & great beer. hello southern food & purple haze!) and that was just right. Just good food and good company. No need to stay out til 4am. Maybe that will happen tomorrow night (because let's face it, staying out til 4am is fun too) but who knows. It's nice to have the option/freedom to do it when I feel, but "going out" all the time has lost its appeal a bit for numerous reasons. Maybe i am growin' up a bit.

the more i study design & figure out my own vision, especially when it comes to print/type projects, the more I realize that I love nothing more than clean & simple design especially using black & white. i can't think of any other advertising agency that embodies that idea more than Baron & Baron, Inc.

For my intro to advertising design class, we were assigned a project where we would research three ad agencies and create an advertisement informing the class about what the agency does/what their vision is/their clients, etc. I immediately knew I wanted to look into Baron & Baron because they are not only an extremely multi-faceted firm but they are the "go to" advertisers for the most respected fashion and cosmetics brands.

Their designs are perfect without saying too much and exude a sense of mystery. The more I researched their work, the more I recognized how they are responsible for so many of the most beautiful, simple yet groundbreaking things in the industry. Calvin Klein, NARS, Burberry, Miu Miu, Armani, etc. The project is complete & handed in, but I can't stop reading more about what they do.

alexander wang pre fall 2011

i'm usually not a huge fan of alexander wang. i just remain kind of neutral about his designs. certain pieces seemed interesting but a lot of it seemed overrated....til now. i'm loving this collection so much. it's just the right amount of simplicity and the right amount of 'edge'.

i'm a huge fan of designs that use all black but play with textures, proportions and different cuts to make it look so much more than any same ol' black outfit. alexander wang is very successful with that especially with this collection, and the addition of the browns? so good.
