today i finally got around to taking photos of what i've got goin' on so far with my new ~bachelorette~ pad. i'm waiting on taking pictures of my 'living room' area until I get my new chair. My brother was kind enough to give me an old chair he found and was trying to get rid of. It's extremely old and even had horsehair in the original cushion. I decided to reupholster the whole thing and it should be ready sometime this week! I'm so excited to see how it looks.

In the meantime, here are photos of my bedroom, kitchen & bathroom. It's getting there! It definitely looks like an old crazy lady lives there but that's the look I was going for kind of.

my bedroom is pretty comfortable, i must say. i lucked out with that amazing bed that the previous renters left when they moved out. it goes perfectly with everything i moved in. my favorite part has to be the chandelier, the molding, hardwood floors, the wall color and the fireplace (doesn't work, btw). The bamboo shades are something that was also left over from the previous renters and i may change them...but i love a dark room when i wake up sometimes. so we'll see.

Obviously, an old lady decorating scheme is not complete without a real life antique fur shawl, amiright? it's a conversation piece when someone walks in, i'd say. "what is that?" "why is that there?" "lol" or "that's cool!". depends on the person.

I spend quite a lot of time in the kitchen, whether it be cooking or creepin' around, but mainly it's to go on the internet. my internet sucks at this place (it should be getting fixed soon) but it works decent in the kitchen, right by the window. so i park myself there a lot of the time to ~surf the web~ and stuff. it's irritating though, i must admit. the only other place it works is sometimes in my room, only from the center of my bed, and that's a big sometimes.

view from my kitchen window of the little backyard. it's cute, tiny and almost feels like a jungle. i share it with two other people but it's still so private and quiet. i love just looking and sitting out there. it will be even better in the fall when the weather is not as humid and i won't have to sweat my bawls off.

last (for now) but not least is my little bathroom. i have collected so many framed photos/prints/etc. over the past year and i needed something to do with them. i've always wanted a wall of different sized, mismatching framed pictures so now i have one! it's my favorite thing i've done here so far..

this afternoon, i took a walk down the street to an area called 'the design district', which is just a bunch of great boutiques with fashion, fabrics, bedding, lighting, stationery, antiques, etc. It's just fun to wander in and out of the shops literally drooling and staring at the things they have to offer.

During the past two weeks, i've been able to give some ~sAVAnnAh TraVeL tiPs~ to people i know who were taking small vacations here. So, i'll do that right now if you ever come to town and want to know some great shopping that's off Broughton street.

Peridot Antiques & Interiors- this is a dream place. in this dream, i'd be able to afford all of these fancy baroque style antiques, pretty chandeliers, mirrors and lamps. but in reality, it's nice to just go in and stare (or go find your own version at a flea market/garage sale for half the price?) The space it is in is really cool and appears as if it was once an old gas station of some kind. Today they were having a sale with items placed outside and I came across House & Garden's coffee table book The Well Lived Life. It's filled with both photos of influential people's homes, parties, lives and inspirational shots thrown in. However, it's not a cheesy "In Style" kind of book. It's very well done and classic. It was on sale for $25 but that's kind of a lot for me so I did not buy it. Easter Bunny, you readin this?

One Fish Two Fish- this store is so spotless and perfect that it always makes me want to go home and shower and exfoliate my face for two hours. First, let's start with the amazing books that they have. Today I spotted a book titled "In the Spirit of Cannes" that I truly truly want. Cannes holds a special place in my heart and to have a coffee table book celebrating that place would be wonderful. I also spotted a Louis Vuitton coffee table book that I'd love. (hay santa clause, u listenin?) Aside from my clearly sophisticated choice of reading (y'all ever heard of that SaLinGer guy?) , they have just the most luxurious candles, knick knacks for your home, gorgeous bedding and furniture. I've always had a fascination and obsession with bedding since I was little. I see beautiful duvets, sheets, pillows, etc. and I get goosebumps. Normal? If I could change my bedspread and pillows everyday, I would.

There were so many fancy little southern ladies in there barking orders about what color scheme they want their guest room to be. Part of me wants to be that when I'm older and the other part of me wants to be an untraditional woman who marches to the beat of her own drummer. What an identity crisis this place brings on, huh! Maybe I can be both.

Custard Boutique- this is probably my favorite place to wander in and die at their selection of goods. It's not outrageously expensive, there is always a wonderful array of interesting colors, prints and styles of clothing in there with realistic sizes which I think is great. They have amazing shoes and jewelry and the overall atmosphere reminds me of just a comfy, fantastic closet. They merchandise the store well and stock it with items that women would actually wear, love, feel special and comfortable in. I love fashion and femininity but i love being comfortable and functional so much more than being sucked into some tight thang that I can't wait to take off.

Madame Chrysanthemum- First of all, that's the hardest word to spell. Chrysanthemum. Eeesh. Anyway, I believe I've written about this shop once before but it's one of my favorites in town. The selection of items are just so unique and beautiful. It's tiny and a lot of it isn't something I'd go in and buy all the time but it is totally an inspiration spot. There are tons of bird themed items in there that i love because well, i love birds (not the ACTUAL animal though, really just decorative birds on clothing and home items, ok?) Go in and peak around and you'll feel more refreshed all day. I'm tellin' yuh! Plus, the selection of jewelry in there is dream worthy. Everything is made locally or from independent artists around the country.

I'll write more about my neighborhood favorite spots in the future. For now, those are my favorites. Also- if there are any sugar daddies out there that want to get me those books, let me know arite?

today in my applied creative thinking class, we watched a video about artist/designer andrea zittel. she's a bit of a renaissance woman, since she takes part in so many different parts of the creative world. the things that i really loved about her was how she's an experience artist. almost everything that she created came from an experience in her life, or a thought that she had and carried over into her art. i mean, i suppose that's how all art is made. it starts off as a thought, an idea, and it translates over into whatever you'd like it to be. with her, she took something like working as a breeder for puppies and turned it into an interior design/social experiment. her focus seems to be on what humans think they need and what they really need and figuring out how to create something that makes sense.

zittel created these prison-cell like capsules where one would live their daily life with only the absolute necessities like a sink, a simple bed, etc. all in extremely close quarters. as if the human was a puppy being held in a little box to be bred into a grown dog. the furniture she designs is extremely modern and almost 'ikea-like', very simple, smooth edges, wooden. just very basic and practical for everyday life. no frills. while that's not exactly my taste all the time, i think her designs are fantastic.

her main philosophy is that by being simple, living with just what we need, the same outfit everyday, and in fact putting ourselves IN a box instead of worrying about how to be OUTSIDE a box was in fact more freeing than anything else. it was interesting to think about. she especially applied that belief to her Uniform Project which I thought was great. I've read about several uniform projects since hers but she did this in the early 90's, by creating and wearing the same outfit for 4 months at a time. This was to prove how independent and freeing it was to not even have to think about what to wear. Figuring out how to clothe yourself everyday is controlling and takes over parts of your brain that you should be using for something else. I may not fully agree with her since fashion is a huge interest of mine, but i see her point. it's definitely something to think about to bring things back down to earth.

Her designs are simple and functional, using the most basic of material but it still somehow remains beautiful. I can't figure out if her art is what is beautiful or all of the thought behind it. Her opinions and her style is completely different than mine but I like that. Read into it if you can.
